We’ve curated a network of organizations creating tangible change, the movers and doers working hard to turn lives around. Here’s what they’re up to and how you can help.
Horowitz Family Foundation +
Stanford University’s School of Medicine
The Horowitz Family Foundation is donating $1,000,000 to Stanford University’s School of Medicine to establish a COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to with the goal of slowing and eventually stopping the transmission of COVID-19 among the incarcerated population in California, and to better understand this process so that other similar settings will be able to benefit from this knowledge.
Anti-Recidivism Coalition
ARC assists in the reintegration of presently and system impacted people by providing housing, counseling, career training, and services like rides home upon release, as well as providing community and education to people behind bars.
DreamCorps #Cut50
#Cut50 is a bipartisan effort to decrease crime and incarceration across all 50 states by proposing legislation, recommending policy change, and building a network of committed activists.
Prison Creative Art Project
The University of Michigan organization Prison Creative Arts Project produces art courses, exhibits, publications, and other events that bring people impacted by the justice system and part of the University’s overall community into artistic collaboration.
Root & Rebound
Root and Rebound provides legal services to communities affected by mass incarceration and the justice system. They both provide direct legal services, as well as advocate to reduce the harm from mass incarceration through public education and policy interventions, including sponsoring a variety of bills in state legislatures.
Ladies of Hope
The LOHM provides housing and food to system impacted women and girls in New York City during their reintegration period. They also work to reform the probation and parole system, and operate a network of system impacted public speakers.
Free Minds Book Club
Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop uses books, creative writing, and peer support to awaken incarcerated youths and adults to new possibilities for their future and become powerful voices for change. Free Minds connects members to jobs, education, and violence prevention, and builds a community of support they can rely on as they forge new paths in life.
REFORM Alliance
REFORM’s mission is to dramatically reduce the number of people returned to prison for technical and/or minor probation violations. Reform Alliance consists of influential leaders in business, government, entertainment, sports, and culture who work collaboratively to disable the revolving door of probation and parole.
Project Avary
Project Avary builds brighter futures for children with incarcerated parents by providing youth with a community of belonging, increased self-knowledge, and valuable life and leadership skills. We are committed to ending generational cycles of incarceration, one child at a time.’
